We are having a fundraiser event; which will allow us to fund the teens with transportation for the summer program and reward some with grants and scholarships. Since I enjoy riding and I know how much the teens enjoy seeing bikers. I am asking, well really challenging bike clubs to help support us with the youth. CommentsLupus Initiative in Atlanta, Georgia - Georgia State Capitol, March 5, 2008 Everyone knows someone affected by Lupus. Hello, My name is Kim Schofield, I am the co-advocacy chair with the Georgia Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America. I am also an African American woman living with systemic lupus. Lupus is an autoimmune disease in which the body turns on itself and major organs. Currently in Georgia, there are over 60,000 thousand people affected with lupus. Lupus support and awareness is not as identifiable as let's say "breast cancer" but our numbers of mortality are up to 70% and increasing and the number of newly diagnosed cause has reached epidemic status. Lupus primarily affected African American women between ages of 18-54, however, we are discovering more teens and men are being diagnosed with Lupus. There is no known cure and there have not been new medicines since the 1940's. The time has is long overdue and we can not continue to remain silent about Lupus. On March 5, 2008 beginning at 12:30pm we are launching a Lupus Awareness Day at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta. I am hoping to connect with organizations that are not only familiar with Lupus but would help us by promoting and attending our upcoming event and like to collaborate on future initiatives. Our goal is to collaborate with other organizations to increase patient education, community awareness, research and funding opportunities throughout Georgia. I am hoping that you can connect me with me bikers in the Atlanta and surrounding areas that will work support our event and work with us on initiatives that will be a win-win for all, especially the patient. Lupus is known to occur within families, there is no known gene or genes which are thought to cause the illness.

CommentsSOUTHEASTERN MOTORCYCLE DRAG ASSOCIATION TO HIGHLIGHT FINAL ROUND OF FRIDAY NIGHT DRAGS (Hampton, GA) The final round of the highly popular Atlanta Motor Speedway Friday Night Drags and Show-N-Shine is set for this Friday night, September 8. Thousands of fans and hundreds of competitors have flocked to the state-of-the-art motorsports facility for street drag racing down pit road of the NASCAR speedway. This weekend the cars, trucks and dragsters will be joined by professional drivers on two wheels representing the Southeastern Motorcycle Drag Association. The high speed motorcycles will be demonstrating the awesome power of professional drag bike racing with a combination of street bikes, top gas and pro mods. The fastest class is expected to crank out the AMS eighth mile drag strip’s first run under five seconds. “The professional riders we are bringing to the show should hit close to 138 miles per hour in an eighth of a mile,” said SEMDRA coordinator Doug Frierson. “These guys are some of the best in the southeastern United States and have been racing competitively for years.” The drag finale will also showcase two wheel magic with a variety of stunts performed by two local super bike acrobats. The professional stuntmen will dazzle the crowd with wheelies, front wheel stands, walking the bike and more. “We wanted to give the fans more entertainment for their dollar,” said AMS special events coordinator Ted Austad. “It’s seven bucks worth of non-stop fun for all ages. This final night for 2006 will set the tone for next year’s Friday Night Drags Series.” Fans will also have the opportunity to visit the Show-N-Shine arena to see the many restored and original beauties from years gone past. There will also be several NASCAR Nextel Cup Series vehicles on display on Friday night as the Richard Petty Driving Experience and Charity Laps join the family fun. All the entries will once again be invited to participate in the ‘speedway cruise’ during the break in action on the Drag to Brag drag strip. The final night of drag racing for 2007 is expected to see past week’s winners Daryl Stiles, Luis Romaw and Clint Abbott return to defend their current bragging rights earned on August 25. Many fans have been calling for the return of Valorie Mitchell, husband Greg Mitchell, Alex Thomas and Mickey Cleveland to return to action at Friday Night Drags. “The e-mails and phone calls have been swamping us at the speedway,” said Austad. “We do not control who comes and who stays home. But I agree with the fans, it would be a great end to the first season to see a battle of the winners.” Friday Night Drags divisions include the Domestic, Import, Trucks, Pro Street and Pro classes. The Show-N-Shine offers Stock Vintage, Stock Current, Street Rod, Hot Rod, Modern, Current and Motorcycle. Winners in all classes receive trophies and plaques while second and third place winners at the Show-N-Shine also receive a commemorative plaque. Infield gates open this Friday night at 6:00pm for the competitors. The grandstand gates open at 6:30pm with drag practice runs slated for 7:00pm. The ‘speedway cruise’ and motorcycle stunt show will take place at 9:00pm with drag elimination rounds to start at 9:20pm. Spectator tickets are $7 with children five and under admitted for free. Entry into the drags or the show-n-shine is $20 and includes the admission ticket for the driver.
